Louisville
Collegiate School, founded in 1915, is an institution
rich with history, tradition, and academic excellence. A clearly
articulated K – 12th grade program prepares students
for the 21st Century with the academic foundation and leadership
skills required for life-long learning, community involvement,
and global engagement.
Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum
offered within a small, supportive community of creative thinkers
and inspired learners, we encourage students to stretch their
horizons and see the world from different perspectives.
Full participation in the life of the school
is the hallmark of our college preparatory program that ignites
intellectual engagement, confident leadership, and extraordinary
character. Rather than being passive spectators or bystanders,
Collegiate students are actively engaged in classroom discussions,
connected to influential adult role-models, and encouraged
to stretch their many talents through a well-developed extracurricular
program of athletics, arts, and service.
Small by design, there is no back row in
a Collegiate classroom and an inclusive culture of participation
drives student involvement in the life of the school beyond
the classroom walls in the lower (K-5), middle (6-8), and
upper (9-12) divisions.
Our community’s collective pursuit
of academic excellence, character development, artistry, athleticism,
and service produced many memorable moments during the 2006-2007
school year:
- We recognized the varied accomplishments of the largest
class in Collegiate history as we awarded 54 diplomas to
members of the Class of 2007 on the 20th anniversary of
the first co-ed graduating class
- We launched Kentucky’s first JK-12 Chinese language
program and welcomed a delegation of students and teachers
from Jiujiang, China (Louisville’s Sister City) to
our Highlands campus
- We announced that 33% of the Class of 2007 earned recognition
from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for performance
on the junior year PSAT: 5 students qualified as National
Merit Semi-Finalists and 11 students qualified as Commended
Scholars
- We viewed the works of seventeen Collegiate students
who earned Regional and National Scholastics Award Honors
in visual art
- We witnessed 40 Collegiate students and 57% of the Class
of 2007 earn national recognition as A.P. Scholars as a
result of their performance on national Advanced Placement
exams
- We expanded the middle school “Enrichment”
program to supplement the classroom academic experience
for students
- We earned national recognition from the College Board
for an exceptional Advanced Placement Art History program
- We applauded our Vocal Ensemble as it took the Carnegie
Hall stage to perform under the direction of Maestro John
Rutter
- We celebrated a spring State Championship with our girls’
Varsity lacrosse team
- We welcomed students from China, Germany, Jordan, and
Qatar into our community for a year of academic study and
cultural exchange
- We launched a student film production class, FilmWorks,
to feature the work of more than a dozen young filmmakers.
- We cheered the 46th Annual Kindergarten Derby, an all-school
event featuring kindergarten jockeys that celebrates Kentucky’s
heritage and Collegiate’s JK-12 community focus.
JK-12 education is a dynamic enterprise.
Even a school with a storied history like Collegiate’s
must remain agile and responsive as it prepares students for
success in an ever-changing, interconnected, and multicultural
world with core principles and values that have stood the
test of time. We remain committed to assuring the widest possible
accessibility to our program by diverse constituencies from
Greater Louisville. Therefore, we commit more than $1.3 million
in financial aid and merit scholarships each year in order
to attract talented students who are serious about contributing
to a vibrant academic community.
On behalf of the Louisville Collegiate School
administration, faculty, and staff, I encourage you to visit
our beautiful campus in the heart of Louisville’s historic
Highland neighborhood to learn firsthand about the Collegiate
experience.
Respectfully,
Junius Scott Prince
Head of School
