Junius Scott Prince
Louisville Collegiate School
Head of School
Scott Prince was born and raised in Louisville,
attending Chenoweth Elementary (gr. 1-2), Louisville Collegiate
School (gr. 3-5), and Kentucky Country Day (gr. 6-12) before
matriculating to Davidson College in North Carolina. While
at Davidson, he was selected by the history department faculty
as a Kendrick K. Kelley Scholar for “academic proficiency,
character, self-effacing leadership, and involvement in campus
affairs,” spent a summer studying at Cambridge University
(England) through a history department exchange, and co-captained
the school’s golf team. Scott graduated with a B.A.
and Honors in History in 1989.
Scott began his teaching career as a boarding
school faculty member at The Culver Academies (Culver, IN).
He taught history; coached golf, basketball, and baseball;
and, served as Assistant Director of Athletics. After three
years at Culver, Scott opted to pursue a Masters degree at
the University of Pennsylvania. During his year of graduate
studies in Philadelphia, he interned as the Graduate Assistant
to the Director of Admissions in the Graduate School of Education.
After earning his graduate degree, Scott
was hired in 1993 as a history teacher, coach, and Middle
School Dean of Students at The Columbus Academy, a PK –
12 day school in Gahanna, Ohio of 920 students. Following
two years in his middle school post, Scott was appointed Head
of Upper School and served the Academy for eight years as
director of its upper division. During his tenure at Academy,
Scott was selected by the National Association of Independent
Schools (NAIS) as an E.E. Ford Fellow and participated in
the association’s leadership development program for
aspiring school heads. Scott also met Molly, now his wife
of 12 years, while serving Academy and together they celebrated
the birth of all three of their children in Columbus.
In 2003, Scott and his family moved to Denver,
Colorado when he was appointed Head of Upper School and Co-Director
of College Counseling at Kent Denver School, a suburban day
school in Englewood serving 620 students in grades 6-12. While
at Kent Denver, he also taught history and supervised the
school’s Summerbridge program.
After nearly 20 years away from Louisville,
Scott returned in 2005 when he accepted the post of Director
of College Counseling and Assistant Head of School at Collegiate.
The following year, he stepped in to assume responsibility
as Head of Upper School when Brian Johnson departed Collegiate
to be Head of School at Alexander Dawson in Lafayette, Colorado.
In 2006, Scott was selected by Greater Louisville, Inc. as
a Bingham Fellow and spent the next year working with classmates
in the community change program that created action and awareness
surrounding the importance of math and science education to
Metro Louisville’s future. Since August 2007, Scott
has served Collegiate as Acting Head of School.
Scott, and his wife Molly, a middle school
math teacher at Collegiate, live in Prospect with their three
children: Ellie (LCS ’17), Anne (LCS ’19), and
Ben (age 4). His family connections to Collegiate span several
generations as his aunt (Carolyn Prince Markham) was a member
of the Class of 1954; his sister (Sarah Prince Bayman) graduated
in 1987 with the first co-ed senior class; and, his father
(Junius W. Prince, III) was a board member from 1971-1986,
serving as President from 1984-1986.
