The Fine Arts program for the Middle School
student at Collegiate — high energy, participatory and
full of variety.
Grade Six and Seven
Sixth and Seventh grade students spend a
quarter in vocal music, instrumental music, visual art, and
drama, rotating through each discipline over the course of
the school year. This broad format gives the student a breadth
of experience in each artistic area while reinforcing concepts
that span each discipline. A great deal of information, learning,
creativity and fun are packed in to the sixth and seventh
grade years.
Grade Eight
With such a variety of experience in the
sixth and seventh grade, the eighth grade student now has
a way to begin to focus his or her interests by selecting
two disciplines out of the four to work in over the entire
school year, spending a semester in each of the two selected
areas. Having experienced a breadth of study in sixth and
seventh grade, the eighth grade student has the opportunity
to deepen his or her work in Fine Arts.
While much attention is given to process,
students have ample opportunity to present their work to the
public through school productions, school publications, concerts,
gallery showings, and culminating class events.
Additional Opportunities in Fine Arts for
the Middle School Student
The Middle School student may also participate
in the LCS Singers and the LCS Players. These groups meet
during class time and offer performances and productions as
extra-curricular and evening events. The Middle School student
may also participate in the regional Shakespeare competition
and join the Collegiate troupe of the International Thespian
Society, and as an eighth grader, audition for the Upper School
plays and musical.
