Lower School
One of the most popular places in the library
for younger students is the colorful, comfortable Junior
Library. Stories come to life as the primary-grade librarian
leads students (usually K-2) on wondrous journeys with words,
singing and craft activities.
As Lower Schoolers advance to the
third grade and beyond, they learn more about the best ways
to use the library's resources. These frequent visitors to
the Media Center spend time learning how to search Collegiate's
databases, use the Internet for research after learning proper
"'netiquette," taking tests on Accelerated Reader, and
listening to multimedia presentations. The library also supports
the monthly character trait through bulletin boards and teacher
classroom collections
"Battle of the Books" This
national reading incentive program challenges 4th and 5th
graders in a competition to test their book knowledge. The
four-hour competition involves teams of students racing from
classroom to classroom giving the correct answers to questions
from a list of 30 books that was presented to them at the
beginning of the year. The two teams with the highest scores
at the end of those rounds will be declared the winners.
Middle School
As the coursework gets more challenging,
Middle Schoolers need research tools adequate to complete
their assigned projects. Luckily, the Library Media Center
is just a hop away. Once there, students have access to the
Internet, databases, and a helpful library staff to point
them in the right direction. Resources include online access
to the Louisville Free Public Library's catalog and over thirty
databases.
Upper School
The Library Media Center offers a quiet,
yet social gathering place for Upper School students to study,
research, read, do homework, and work on projects. There are
ample magazines for everyone's interests. With all of the
computers available, research is just a mouse click away.
