Character Development

Character development and community service are woven throughout the curriculum. An emphasis is placed on helping the child to develop positive interpersonal skills, to deal with feelings, to resolve conflicts and to develop a sense of personal, and civic responsibility.

The Lower School counseling and guidance program plays a key role in promoting students’ emotional, social, moral and academic development.

The program provides grades K-3 with classroom situations that focus on character ideals and allow the students to express themselves on topics of interest and importance.

For grades 4 and 5, there are life skills classes.

The Director of Lower School Student Services strives to respond to the “needs of the individual child.” The Director initiates discussion and responds to student, parent, and teacher concerns. The Director of Student Services organizes parent groups on pertinent topics, community service opportunities, and meets individually with students. Familiar with educational resources and mental health professionals in this community, the Director makes referrals and maintains ongoing communication when appropriate.
