Another
successful element of the "Middle School Experience"
is the character development fostered in each student.
Coupled with our academic rigor, our character student-development
programs afford our students a chance to address self-confidence,
acceptance, and independence under the caring guise of
exceptional adults.
It is through these offerings that
we can develop meaningful adult relationships, so valuable
in their transference to the classroom. To this end,
we strive to provide programs that take advantage of
relationships to further the academic and character
development of our students.
Character education provides once-a-week
class time with the Middle School Director of Student
Services, including a curriculum on relationship development,
goal setting, and drug and alcohol awareness. Our program
also provides 8-20 hours of community service per student
for Louisville agencies and establishes a commitment
to life-long philanthropy and service. Our students
gave 2,688 hours of community service to 14 agencies
in 2003-04.
We take great pride in our effort to
foster character development in our students so they
can meet or exceed our high expectations and embrace
a life of learning.
