The Physical
Education program
at Louisville Collegiate School is designed to develop
physically educated children who participate regularly
in physical activity and are prepared to address their
fitness needs both now and in the future.
The program offers an environment for
students to develop strong character, responsibility
and an appreciation for others. Student participate
in physically challenging, mentally stimulating, and
socially sound activities.
The learning goals are to increase
and improve the child's sense of confidence for ongoing
skill development; mutual support within a group; agility
and physical coordination, and confidence in one's physical
self and in being with others.
6th Grade
- Physical fitness through daily conditioning and
active participation
- Application of tactics, rules, strategies and sports
skills in team play
- Climbing wall
- Aerobic games
- Archery
- Rhythmic activities
7th Grade
- Physical fitness through daily conditioning and
active participation
- Introduction to biomechanics
- Interdisciplinary unit on indigenous games
- Yoga
- Kick aerobics
- Team building skills for team sports and group game
- Introduction to heart rate monitoring
8th Grade
- Physical fitness through daily conditioning and
active participation
- Cooperative games/initiatives
- Fit For Life (nutrition, fitness, stress management,
wellness, biomechanics)
- Team sports
- Dance
- Introduction to heart rate monitoring
Sportsmanship, character education,
physical fitness, and active, healthy life-styles are
emphasized throughout the physical education curriculum.
