Sue
Speed '48
Sue Speed has served the Greater Louisville
community as a pioneer in the area of assisting the homeless.
She worked for nearly ten years as executive director of the
Coalition for the Homeless, an organization she founded and
developed. During her tenure with the Coalition, she helped
more than 40 organizations forge common goals to deal with
the complex issues of homelessness and poverty.
"Perhaps the strongest lesson I took
away with me from my Collegiate years was how life-sustaining
friends are; how important it is to reach out and be available,
to look beyond the obvious and step into the shoes and heads
and hearts of others."
Deede
Baquié Jones '48
Somewhere in the midst of graduating from
Collegiate, attending college, getting married, and raising
a family of six children, Deede chose voluntarism as a career,
and found her focus in social services. Her contributions
include:
First Woman Board President, Metro United Way Board President
for the Family & Children's Counseling Center, United
Crescent Hill Ministries, Bingham Child Guidance Clinic, Plymouth
Urban Center, Kentucky Association of Older Persons
"Achievement was always a first priority,
but what I cherish most from my Collegiate experience are
the lifelong friendships we formed at school."
