Maggie Brown, Paige McClellan, Catelyn Pate, Melissa Vaz-Ayes and Lily Walton participated in a fabulous concert by the Kentucky All-State Children’s Chorus at Kentucky Center’s Whitney Hall last Thursday evening, February 4. Along with 200 other 5th & 6th graders selected by audition from the entire state of Kentucky, these singers showed exceptional focus and skill as they rehearsed and performed together. They learned a lot about the discipline and joy of singing, and had a great experience meeting other boys and girls in the chorus.

Upper School Hosts Second Annual Collegiate Coffee House
The Second Annual Collegiate Coffee House continued to display the talent of Collegiate students. The Coffee House is essentially an open-mic night that includes poetry readings, singing and instrumental performances. The Auditorium was transformed into a coffee house complete with couches mood lighting, baked goods, and, of course, coffee and other beverages. Highlights this year included a Collegiate Strings performance, Coach and Mrs. DeGeorge singing duets, and vocal performances by many Upper School students.

Cultural Awareness Club Raises Funds for Haiti This year, millions of people around the world were shocked by the earthquake in Haiti, and began to send money to numerous Haiti Relief organizations. With the support of Mr. Davis and faculty advisor Claudia Sharlin, the Cultural Awareness club responded by organizing two fundraisers. The first was an out of uniform day: if you brought in at least a dollar to the Help Haiti fund, you were allowed to come to school out of uniform last Wednesday. More than 2/3 of the high school donated money, and many people donated more than the required $1. The club’s second initiative was a “Churro & Hot Chocolate” sale. More than sold 200 churros were sold to students and faculty.

In the end, the Cultural Awareness Club raised approximately $600, and will be donating the money to Help for Haiti.

8th Grade Hits the Slopes On February 3 the eighth grade enjoyed a day on the slopes at Paoli Peaks ski resort. The weather was beautiful and the slopes were a little icy but full of snow. The students were full of enthusiasm and eager to hit the slopes. The students were able to take a lesson from qualified instructors for snowboarding and skiing and it was fun to see the students enjoying an activity which will be a lifelong skill.

The students encouraged each other and showed a willingness to help each other throughout the day. This is a trip that the students look forward to each year and they showed the Collegiate spirit and excellence which we have come to know. Well done to all for a fun day on the slopes.
