A perfect landing! Thank you to everyone who made the destination COLLEGIATE an amazing success! This year’s event boasted a record attendance of nearly 400 people. Amidst the chic, relaxed ambiance of our aviation-themed event, Collegiate parents, friends and alumni came out to support the school during a night with great food, music and fun. Congratulations to our high bidders who won fabulous trips and gift packages during the live, silent and super silent auctions. Click here to view more photos from the event!
The success of this event is due in large part to our wonderful Co-Chairs Anne-Marie Brown and Sam Case who devoted countless hours to making destination COLLEGIATE a reality. A BIG thank you is also deserved by the 2010 Gala Committee and the Parents Association (PA). The partnership with the PA brought multitudes of eager volunteers, who worked tirelessly to sell booklet ads and encourage attendance.

In case you were having too much fun in the lounge areas during the event and missed some of the live auction, you still have the opportunity to take part in our 4th Annual Sangria Mamas cocktail party. You’ll enjoy an evening of sangrias, delicious food and friends. The party will take place on Saturday, March 27 at the beautiful home of Anne Hinkebein. Click here to be a part of the fun!
Be sure to support the scholarship endowment as well. After a brilliant speech themed “life is a journey, not a destination” by Moses Icyishaka ’09, a freshman at Princeton University, Gala attendees raised their paddles in support of the Scholarship Endowment Fund. The Endowment funds scholarships to qualifying students. Thank you to Jim and Missy Allen for your continued commitment to this scholarship fund. Click here to support the scholarship endowment with a donation of $1,000, $500, $250, or $100.
This year’s Gala featured a brand new opportunity that allowed guests to contribute to faculty grant requests. These grants directly benefit students and faculty and enhance the classroom experience. Click here to make a contribution towards the purchase of the faculty grant requests and learn more about the grant examples below:
603 Tibetan Monk Visit (All divisions), 605 Cultural Enrichment (All divisions), 607 Quizdom Classroom Interactive Systems (Middle School), 609 Interactive Whiteboard (Lower School)

Carnaval de Québec 2010 Middle School French students and teachers Susan Robbins and Laurie Vieth voyaged to Québec City for Winter Carnival (Carnaval de Québec) and the many splendors of the province of Québec. At Winter Carnaval, students watched the creation of ice sculptures, tasted traditional Québecois food and joined in the general merriment of the Carnaval spirit.
In addition to visiting the Winter Carnaval, students went sledding and drank hot chocolate on the Dufferin Terrace next to Château Frontenac. Students also had adventures dog sledding, snow shoeing and tubing. A visit to Musée du Fort and walking in the fortessed old Québec provided an opportunity to discover more about Québec city’s rich and vibrant history.
The group’s final evening was spent at a sugar shack where students learned about the process of maple syrup production and then played wooden spoons and danced to a local fiddle player's traditional québecois songs, all while eating traditional foods smothered in maple syrup. An unforgettable experience was had by all.

Chinese New Year Following their research on Chinese immigration, Chinatowns and New Year's customs, 22 Middle School Chinese students visited Chinatown Chicago to see firsthand what they study in the classroom. In addition to participating in New Year's festivities, students practiced their Chinese with some of the 70,000 Chinese that live in and around Chinatown Chicago.
Perhaps students will most remember the Buddhist temple as they heard monks lead in chants with prayers and incense being offered to the gods, or maybe the Asian art exhibit at AIC. Perhaps some will say they enjoyed Chinatown square and watching the traditional lion dance or seeing the sites. Most likely though, if you ask a Middle School Chinese student what they will remember most about their trip, they would tell you the parade and the food (a couple will tell you they even liked the chicken feet!).
