Collegiate students excel on AP exams taken in May
90 percent of students’ scores were
3 or higher on exams
LOUISVILLE, KY. – – Louisville
Collegiate School students again performed exceptionally well
on Advanced Placement (AP) exams administered by the College
Board in May 2007.
Seventy-four Collegiate students took the
AP exams during the May testing weeks. Ninety percent of the
scores earned by Collegiate students were 3 or higher on the
exams. Sixty-one percent of the scores were 4 or higher and
twenty-six percent of the scores were 5, which is the highest
possible score on these exams. Students who scored 3 or higher
on their exam positioned themselves to earn college credit
at most colleges and universities.
Seventy-seven percent of Collegiate juniors
(Class of 2008) and seniors (Class of 2007) took an AP exam
this spring. Sixty percent of the Class of 2007 will be recognized
by College Board as AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honor, AP
Scholars with Distinction, or National AP Scholars.
The College Board recognizes students who
complete three or more AP examinations with grades of 3 or
higher as “AP Scholars.” The Board also recognizes
two other levels of achievement based on the student’s
performance on AP exams: An “AP Scholar with Honor”
designation is given to students who earn an average grade
of 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on
four or more exams. “AP Scholar with Distinction,”
the highest level of recognition, is given to students who
earn an average grade of 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades
of 3 or higher on five or more exams.
Collegiate’s curriculum offers 17 Advanced
Placement courses to students in grades 9-12. In addition
to a wide array of course options, the Upper School culture
at Collegiate encourages widespread participation in the Advanced
Placement program. Over the past six years, 87 percent of
Collegiate graduates have participated in the school’s
Advanced Placement program
The College Board’s Advanced Placement
program offers students the opportunity to take challenging
college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive
college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful
performance. The College Board offers high schools a recommended
curriculum for Advanced Placement courses, designs year-end
exams, administers the exams each May, and uses college professors
and high school instructors to grade the exams on a scale
of 1-5.
Collegiate prides itself upon having a strong
liberal arts curriculum and the results of the 2006 Advanced
Placement exams are uniformly strong across math, science,
history, foreign language, and English.
Last year, the College Board named Collegiate
the nation’s top ranking school in AP Art History. The
school’s AP Art History participation rate and test
scores were featured in the 2007 AP Report to the Nation.
Established in 1915, Louisville Collegiate
School is a co-ed college-preparatory independent school for
students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
