Collegiate Board names Scott Prince Head of School
Former Dean of Students Brad Davies appointed
Upper School Head
LOUISVILLE,
KY. LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Louisville Collegiate School
Board of Trustees has named Assistant Head of School Scott
Prince to the Head of School position. The Board appointed
Prince last week after Head of School Tom Hobert informed
the trustees he was resigning after a three-month leave of
absence from the school.
Prince has appointed former Dean of Students
Brad Davies to Head of Upper School – another position
Prince held the last 1 1⁄2 years at Collegiate.
“Since his arrival at Collegiate more
than two years ago, Scott has developed an exceptional college
counseling program and has re-invigorated the upper school
through quiet, confident leadership,” said Board of
Trustees President Babs Robinson. “During the last eleven
weeks, Scott has further proven his leadership abilities in
his capacity as Acting Head of School, and the Board has great
confidence in him.”
Prince was born and raised in Louisville,
attending Chenoweth Elementary (gr. 1-2), Louisville Collegiate
School (gr. 3-5), and Kentucky Country Day (gr. 6-12) before
matriculating to Davidson College in North Carolina, where
he graduated with a bachelor’s degree and honors in
history in 1989. He later earned a master’s degree from
the University of Pennsylvania. Before joining Collegiate,
Prince served as a history instructor, coach, and Assistant
Director of Athletics at The Culver Academies in Culver, Indiana;
history teacher and Head of Upper School at The Columbus Academy
in Gahanna, Ohio; and as Head of Upper School and Co-Director
of College Counseling at Kent Denver School in Denver, Colorado.
Prince, and his wife Molly, a middle school
math teacher at Collegiate, live in Prospect with their three
children:~Ellie (LCS '17), Anne (LCS '19), and Ben (age 4).
His family connections to Collegiate span several generations
as his aunt (Carolyn Prince Markham) was a member of the Class
of 1954; his sister (Sarah Prince Bayman) graduated in 1987
with the first co-ed senior class; and, his father (Junius
W. Prince, III) was a board member from 1971-1986, serving
as President from 1984-1986.
“Louisville Collegiate School has warmly
embraced my family and me upon our return to Louisville; has
provided an excellent beginning to the educational journey
of our children; and has presented a professionally rewarding
and invigorating environment in which Molly and I find fulfillment.
Given all that Collegiate has offered my family and me, I
am energized to give back in equal or greater measure,”
he said.
Prince said Collegiate is fortunate to have
Davies prepared to lead its Upper School. “In a very
short period of time, Brad has breathed new life into Upper
School student life programs, fostered newfound school spirit,
and refocused community attention to personal responsibility
and the Honor Code,” Prince said. “With his appointment,
the exciting direction of our Upper School will continue uninterrupted
along its current trajectory.”
Originally from Apple Valley, Minnesota,
Davies earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University
and a master’s degree from Duke University, where he
graduated magna cum laude. While at Stanford, Davies served
as junior class president, studied abroad in Ecuador, and
captained the school's soccer team. He began his teaching
career as a Spanish instructor and coach at Wesleyan School
in Norcross, Georgia. Before joining Collegiate in 2006, Davies
served as Spanish teacher and faculty advisor at Durham Nativity
School, an urban 6-8th grade, tuition-free charter school
for boys in Durham, North Carolina. Davies will continue to
teach Spanish and coach the Varsity boys' soccer at Collegiate.
Established in 1915, Louisville Collegiate
School is a co-ed college-preparatory independent school for
students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
