Louisville Collegiate School Announces 2009 Merit Scholars

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Louisville Collegiate School is pleased to announce this year's Merit Scholarship Recipients. Cason Riley, Jake Zimmerman, Felipe De La Barra, Elizabeth Walton, Mary Gail Richardson, Olivia Hamel, Gray Alston, and Ben Handy have earned renewable scholarships toward their high school career at Louisville Collegiate School. Gray Alston will join the Collegiate community after completing Middle School at North Oldham, while Ben Handy will arrive from Sacred Heart Model School. The other winners currently attend Collegiate’s Middle School.

Earning renewable scholarships towards their middle school career at Louisville Collegiate School are Urooj Nasim (Collegiate), Harcourt Allen (Brandeis), Jacob Fink (Brandeis), John Steenrod (Chance), and Coley Sullivan (Chance).

Ruby Redstone is the recipient of the Patricia Trost Friedler for Young Women, a new scholarship opportunity created by Sallie Bingham, a Collegiate alumna from the Class of 1954, who named the program in memory of her classmate Patricia Trost Friedler. The scholarship is awarded to a young woman entering the ninth grade, who exhibits creative promise, academic achievement and personal qualities of leadership and service.

2009 Merit Scholars

To be considered for a merit scholarship, students were required participate in standardized tests, write a formal essay, submit a letter of recommendation from a current teacher, and, if selected as a finalist, interview with a selection committee. Applications for the Patricia Trost Friedler Scholarship were also required to exhibit an artistic or creative talent.

Louisville Collegiate School commits more than $1.5 million in financial assistance and merit scholarships each year. Merit Scholarships are available to students entering the 6th or 9th grade who demonstrate superior academic performance, a strong standardized testing profile, and an outstanding track record of extracurricular involvement.
