Five Collegiate Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
Seniors rank among nation’s brightest in national
competition
LOUISVILLE, KY. – Louisville
Collegiate School announced today the selection of five
students from the Class of 2010 who have qualified as
Semifinalists in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship
Program. National Merit Scholars are eligible to receive
monetary support towards the cost of college tuition
from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Taylor Hodge, Matthew Kubicki, Drew
Mattingly, Trevor Slaton, and Kelley Walton earn
this distinct honor along with 16,000 high school seniors
nationwide.

“We are proud to recognize the
achievement of these five individuals, as they are an
example of the talented and gifted students we educate
daily,”said Head of School, Scott Prince. “We
look forward to supporting their candidacy to finalists
in the competition.”
Averaging approximately 1.4 million
entrants a year, the National Merit Scholarship Competition
recognizes students with the highest PSAT/NMSQT®
Selection Index Scores. Students are tested in areas
covering critical reading, mathematics, and writing
skills. Collegiate’s five semifinalists scored
in the 99th percentile of the competition.
Over the last 8 years, nearly 25% of
Collegiate’s graduates have been recognized in
the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
Semifinalists are chosen on a state-by-state
basis to ensure that all
areas of the United States are represented in this highly
selective talent pool. All five will now work to advance
to the Finalist round by meeting high academic standards
and fulfilling a series of requirements set forth by
the competition.
