Louisville Collegiate School announces AP Scholars
Earns Challenge Index Higher than Kentucky Schools

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Louisville Collegiate School is proud to announce nineteen students who have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams. The announcement also marks the third year in a row, that Collegiate has earned a higher Challenge Index score than any public high school in the state of Kentucky, according to Newsweek magazine’s annual ranking of American high schools.

Collegiate’s 2009 Challenge Index was 4.32. Louisville’s DuPont Manual High School was the highest ranked public school in Kentucky with a Challenge Index of 3.52 that placed it 123rd out of the top 1,500 public schools in the nation. North Oldham High School was the second highest ranked public school in the state with a Challenge Index of 2.83 that ranked it 236th in the nation.

Upon release of the results, Head of School Scott Prince commented, “For nearly a hundred years, Collegiate has remained committed to the powerful combination of small class sizes, motivated students, and inspiring faculty – a potent mix that annually produces strong Advanced Placement results and, more importantly, inspires lifelong learning and curiosity that simply can’t be quantified in rankings of these sorts.”

Samuel Beach and Noah Horowitz qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Rebecca Bonnarens, Joseph Geoghegan, Barbara Gibbs, Thomas Vieth, and Ann Wood qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

David Alston, Ben Noble, Dana Prussian, Walker Robinson, Remy Sisk, and Maud Welch qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Jeananne Baldwin, Katherine Brown, Moses Icyishaka, Brooke Roberts, Nathan Webb, and Katie Beth White qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher.

Newsweek’s ‘Challenge Index’ uses a ratio that divides the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2008 by the number of graduating seniors, allowing schools to be compared on a per capita basis.

In addition to the Class of 2009, the following members of the Class of 2010 have earned recognition as a result of tests taken at the end of their junior year. They will have the opportunity to 'move up' and earn even higher recognition levels based upon the testing that they will complete after their senior year:

AP Scholar: Lexsa Campbell, Harvey Fulton, Phillip Goldstein, Taylor Hodge, Nora Inman, Chan Lee, Layth Masri, and Kelley Walton
AP Scholar with Honor: Andrew Mattingly
AP Scholar with Distinction: Trevor Slaton
National AP Scholar: Matthew Kubicki

Louisville Collegiate School is a JK-12, co-ed independent day school located in the historic Highlands neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Its Upper School features 204 students in grades 9-12 and an average class size of 13 students.
