Louisville Collegiate School to
Host Regional Spelling Bee
Winner will advance to National Bee in Washington D.C.
LOUISVILLE, KY. – Louisville
Collegiate School will host the Regional Scripps Spelling
Bee on Saturday, March 13 in the school’s auditorium.
The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Students from around the state, who
have won their school’s spelling bee, will compete
for the regional title. The winner will receive an all-expense
paid trip to Washington D.C. and have the opportunity
to compete in the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee
held on June 2-4, 2010.
The beginning of the national spelling
competition dates back to 1925, when it was first organized
by Louisville’s Courier-Journal. Frank Neuhauser
won the first contest by successfully spelling “gladiolus.”
In 1941, the E.W. Scripps Company took over sponsorship
of the annual spelling contest.

Louisville Collegiate School is a JK-12, co-ed independent
