As President of the Parents Association of Louisville CollegiateWelcome School, I’m pleased to welcome you to our new and improved Parents Association Newsletter! We’ve changed its format and are trying to keep it up to date to hopefully serve our parent community better. I hope you’ll refer to it often—one of our goals is to help facilitate communications between school and home—the more places you can go for information, the better informed you’ll be about the goings on at Collegiate. If you have questions about PA-related business, please feel free to contact one of the members of the Executive Board listed below. Painless Fundraising

I’m very excited about what I like to call, “painless fundraising.” The PA allocates around $20,000 every year to faculty for “out of budget” requests—everything from microscopes to chess clocks to African dancers. But every year we must turn down many requests because we haven’t raised enough money; Dollar BillI hate turning down faculty requests for these extra materials, equipment, and programs, because, in the end, it is our children who are missing out. I want to be able to grant every request and I want to be able to do it without sending our children out peddling door-to-door.

Enter painless fundraising.

We use the Kroger gift card and the Target Visa Card programs to raise money by doing what we all do anyway—shop! Please make sure you have a Kroger gift card (if you don’t have one, you can buy one for $5 from Sharon Ellis in the main school building.) We get 4% on all money “loaded” on the Kroger cards. It’s super easy to do—you can load your card at the customer service counter before you shop or do it at the checkout before your groceries are rung up (and you can still earn miles or whatever else you earn on your credit cards.) Kroger LogoIf 500 Collegiate families would reload $200 every month on their Kroger cards, the PA would earn $48,000 a year and we wouldn’t have to sell door-to-door anymore! You can use your Kroger card for fuel, prescriptions, and, of course, groceries.

The Target Visa card program is easy to use, also. Simply apply for a Target Visa card and once you have one, go to their website and designate Louisville Collegiate as your benefiting school. Target LogoWe receive 1% back from all purchases at Target on a Target Visa card. Schools like Walden (much smaller than Collegiate) are receiving more than 5 times what we currently receive from Target. If 500 Collegiate families charged only $100 on their Target Visa cards every month, we would receive $6,000 every year. We need every family to get in the Kroger Gift Card and Target Visa habit!

Sarah Harlan,
President
